The Senior Class sported their future school colors April 28 for College Decision Day and celebrated their achievements with music, Tad’s shaved ice and a bonfire where they could burn their accumulated college documents.

“The purpose of [College Decision Day] is to celebrate that you made it through the process and you’ve made a college decision moving on to the next step in your educational career,” college counselor Heather Henning said.

College Decision Day is a day where seniors all over the nation are required to communicate to their school of choice their decision of attendance. It is commonly celebrated May 1, but because of conflicts with students taking AP exams that day, April 28 was chosen so all students could participate.

For some seniors, such as senior Josie Weck, the decision process was a lengthy one, but one that had a significant reward in the end. Weck says that after deciding on attending Vanderbilt University she felt as though a weight was lifted off her shoulders.

“Celebrating with the grade was incredible because it was not only a celebration of our accomplishments but a celebration of Sion. Everything was paying off,” Weck said. “While we still have AP tests and end of year commitments, College Decision Day really brought a sense of ‘we really did it.’”

By wearing their school colors, students, classmates and teachers got to see where the Class of 2017 will end up next fall.

“It was really exciting to see where everyone was going but also really sad because I knew our time together was coming to a close,” senior Bridget Koeppen said.

According to Henning, the class of 2017 offered a lot to the school and will offer the same to their future schools through their talents and personalities.

“Something really cool about the senior class is just all the unique personality traits and talents you guys have to offer and then going on to do all different things in different places,” Henning said.
