The welcoming smells of zesty barbecue sauce and classic Kansas City style meat fills the new Q39 restaurant near College and Antioch in Overland Park. With its award-winning barbecue, Q39 offers a variety of pork, chicken, fish, brisket and beef. While enjoying homestyle barbecue both indoor and outdoor seating and large windows, make the space open so it doesn’t feel crowded. The newer addition to the Q39 chain has a similar environment to the original Midtown location. Both feature a rustic style with plenty of room and amazing service. Q39 is a great place to enjoy Kansas City Style barbecue, and is a definite must-go for everyone.

Three years ago, Rob and Kelly Magee opened their first restaurant on 39th Street, lending itself to the name. This August their second restaurant just opened this August. Both restaurants featured the same menu, with many award winning dishes.

On of the most popular items is the triple threat: sausage, pulled pork, pork belly, apple coleslaw and zesty BBQ sauce served on a toasted bun. A few inches thick, it’s difficult to not make a mess trying to devour the highly recommended specialty sandwich. This dish is one of the award-winning dishes, and certainly lives up to its reputation.

Reservations are accepted and encouraged, especially during dinner hours. They are open Monday – Thursday from 11:00 to 10:00, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 11:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 9:00. Lunch is served daily until 4 o’clock.

Their lunch menu offers a ‘fast and fresh’ section for only $10. Located about 10 minutes from Sion using I-435, Q39 is an ideal place for senior-lunch checkout. The ‘fast and fresh’ menu offers a sandwich with a side and extra sauce.

Although Q39 is relatively cheap for barbecue restaurants, an average meal costs about $20 per person. It may be a it a splurge, but the remarkable barbecue, excellent service and a homey environment makes it worth every penny.
